What We Believe:
We believe an effective Catholic education is a whole-person formation that values the uniqueness of each individual child: mind, body, and spirit.
We are dedicated to providing children with the tools to achieve academic excellence and strong character within the safety of a caring and diverse Catholic community inspired by the life of St. Francis of Assisi and supported by the Catholic parishes of St. Mark the Evangelist, St. Camillus, and Our Lady of Vietnam.
We believe that Catholic schools must offer experiences within an educational environment that enables students to proclaim and celebrate the Good News of Jesus Christ, to build a community of faith, and to reach out in a spirit of service to others with a feeling of fellowship and openness for the sake of peace and justice.
We recognize and use our God-given gifts to pass on both wisdom and faith and equip our students to be active citizens of the 21st century through learning that provides a solid foundation through mastery of academic fundamentals and through high-quality experiential learning that provides students with transferable skills that will benefit them in their academic and career pursuits.
Who We Are:
We are a school of 440 students that is growing. We serve children age 2 through 8th grade at our St. Camillus Campus in Silver Spring. The majority of our students come from families where at least one parent was born abroad. In addition to the United States, parents and students at SFIS were born in over 50 countries on nearly every continent: from Korea to India to Ethiopia to Nigeria and throughout Africa and Asia as well from El Salvador, Jamaica, Haiti and many other parts of Latin America and the Caribbean with still others from Europe and the Middle East.
Our families come from all over the Washington Metropolitan Region. Many students come from within five miles of the school in the Silver Spring and Hyattsville areas, others take advantage of our close proximity to the Beltway and the major arteries of New Hampshire Avenue and Adelphi Road. Our excellent Extended School Program provides flexibility for working families and commuters with before and after care available from 6:45 am until 6:30 pm.
Our strong academic program begins with a fully licensed and accredited preschool program for 2, 3 and 4 year olds that prepares children to successful in school. Our Kindergarten through 8th grade program provides a standards-based education that includes a strong emphasis on communication, including multiple language learning. Our academic program is supplemented by numerous after school activities and sports designed to extend our students' learning. We provide the opportunity for nearly year round learning through our Summer _ Saint Francis programs offered June through August.
Families come to SFIS from a broad range of socio-economic, religious, and linguistic backgrounds which adds greatly to our community's diversity. Financial aid is available from the school and the Archdiocese of Washington.
Saint Francis International School prepares students for the rigorous demands of the Catholic high schools of the Washington region, all of which have a well-known reputation for their college preparatory programs and the talented alumni which they produce. Students who graduate from SFIS are prepared to enter any high school - public or private - and succeed in becoming everything that God wants them to be!
